This app has woven creative writing withsmartphone technology to create a fascinating literary explorationof Leicester's Cultural Quarter; specially commissioned poetry,plays and narrative fiction explore urban locations and theirhistory.Follow trails around the area to find original content anduncover the Cultural Quarter's hidden stories. Each trail startswith a white marker on the map which signifies the first chapter ofthe story.You can view the chapters of each story in any sequence.However, you might want to open them in the intended order so thatyou can see the narratives unfold. Simply follow the line on themap and open the next chapter when you have arrived at thelocation.Hidden Stories has been commissioned as part of AffectiveDigital Histories: Recreating De-Industrialised Places, From the1970s to the Present, a research project exploring the hidden anduntold stories of people who lived and worked in former industrialbuildings at two locations in the East Midlands: Leicester'sCultural Quarter and Glossop, a mill town in North Derbyshire. Theproject is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council(AHRC) and is based at the University of Leicester. Phoenix and appdeveloper Cuttlefish are project partners. The app makes use ofCuttlefish's Empedia locative media platform.Hidden Stories features creative writing by Divya Ghelani, DavidDevanny, Irfan Master, Carol Leeming and Kevan Manwaring. The best way to explore the soundscapes isonfoot around the Cultural Quarter. However, when thelocationtracker is off you can touch the map to hear what it wouldsoundlike at that location.The first time you open the app the latest collection ofsoundswill automatically be downloaded to your device, enabling youtouse it offline and reducing future bandwidth usage.
